Transforming rehabilitation case study
Turning your life around
P3 is part of the Purple Futures partnership between Interserve, 3SC, and Shelter, which will own Community Rehabilitation Companies, established in 2015 as part of the Ministry of Justice’s Transforming Rehabilitation strategy.
James was 19 when he was referred to the charity P3, following a serious episode of self-harming. James’ early life was full of difficulties, and a court had required him to get mental health treatment. Yet without stable accommodation, it was tricky to comply with this.
Working with P3, James identified a set of goals and needs. His support workers have structured with him coping strategies and a self-care toolkit, and stepped in to help him find emergency support and advocacy. P3 found him shared accommodation provided by the YMCA, and regular meetings with his Probation Officer and mental health support have ensured James has kept out of trouble. He has learned money management skills to handle his benefits, and now keeps track of his medication and has started to pull his life around.
At the hostel James has made new friends and has a stable income. As a result of his positive experience on the programme, he has a good rapport with services and knows who to go to and access, should he need support in the future.
